چکیده

A comparative chromosome banding analysis of Chironomussolitus Linevich & Erbaeva, 1971 and Chironomusanthracinus Zetterstedt, 1860 from East Siberia (Lakes Baikal, Gusinoe, Arakhley and Irkutsk Reservoir) showed close similarity of banding sequences. Chironomussolitus differs from Chironomusanthracinus in one species-specific sequence of arm B. Arms C (43%) and D (30%) had inversion banding sequences previously reported in Chironomusanthracinus The similarity of karyotypic features of Chironomussolitus and Chironomusanthracinus in combination with morphological features of larvae provide evidence in favour of including Chironomussolitus in the Chironomusanthracinus group of sibling species long with Chironomusreservatus Shobanov, 1997.

Karyotypes of Chironomus Meigen (Diptera: Chironomidae) species from Africa

The karyotypes of six African Chironomus species (Chironomus alluaudi Kieffer, 1913, Chironomus transvaalensis Kieffer, 1923, Chironomus sp. Nakuru, Chironomus formosipennis Kieffer, 1908, Chironomus prope pulcher Wiedemann, 1830, Chironomus sp. Kisumu) were investigated; four of these karyotypes were described for the first time (Chironomus sp. Nakuru, Chironomus formosipennis, Chironomus prop...

Chromosomal organization of the ribosomal RNA genes in the genus Chironomus (Diptera, Chironomidae)

Chromosomal localization of ribosomal RNA coding genes has been studied by using FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) in 21 species from the genus Chironomus Meigen, 1803. Analysis of the data has shown intra- and interspecific variation in number and location of 5.8S rDNA hybridization sites in 17 species from the subgenus Chironomus and 4 species from the subgenus Camptochironomus Kieffe...

Using various lines of evidence to identify Chironomus species (Diptera: Chironomidae) in eastern Canadian lakes.

Chironomus Meigen (Diptera, Chironomidae) larvae are usually the largest sediment-burrowing chironomids, and as such often constitute a major part of the freshwater infaunal biomass. However, use of this genus in ecological, environmental and paleoecological studies is hampered by the fact that Chironomus larvae are difficult to identify to species because the larvae of many species are morphol...

Distribution and abundance of chironomidae (Diptera, Insecta) in an impacted watershed in south-east Brazil.

Patterns of abundance and distribution of chironomid midges (Diptera, Chironomidae) in the middle Rio Doce basin were analysed. Human activities (mining, steel processing, and Eucalyptus spp. forestry) contribute to environmental degradation and low water quality in this watershed. Physical and chemical water traits (dissolved oxygen, pH, total alkalinity, electric conductivity, phosphorus and ...

Species of the subgenus Chaetolabis, townes 1945 of the genus Chironomus, Meigen 1803 (Diptera: Chironomidae), from a cytogenetic perspective.

The polytene chromosomes of three North American species in the subgenus Chaetolabis of the genus Chironomus are described and compared to the published karyotypes of two Palearctic species. Chironomus (Chaetolabis) atroviridis has four polytene chromosomes, like the Palearctic C. globulus, while C. ochreatus and the North American populations of C. bitumineus each have three chromosomes due to...
